After taking the seat of honor in a dining room filled with admirers, the indigent poet Baal shows more interest in the food on his plate than he does in the praise of his poetry. Mech, a timber Baal's Hymn, Remembering Marie A, and The Ballad of the Adventurers are all based on tunes and compositions by Brecht dating back to the early 1920s. These tunes were made for Brecht to sing in cabarets and also became popular performance pieces for the likes of Ernst Busch. They are arranged for small orchestra, here, by Dominic Muldowney.
